LIBRARY OPEN IN NEW ROOM

until closing time in order to become familiar with the new quarters.

Approximately three-fourths of the books now are available at the new place but lack of space made it necessary to leave a part of the books, all of the bound magazines and some of the reading tables and equipment in the condemned building.

Since the library was condemned, the staff received books on the lawn in front of the library and arranged magazines and newspapers for the convenience of the public. In the meantime, the library board and the city council sought to obtain suitable quarters.

This was difficult because some available buildings were not strong enough to permit the installation of hundreds of books.

The three-office space at the new site is divided into a main office for reception and distributing of books, juvenile reading room and the stacks. A small space in the juvenile department is devoted to the adult magazine reading room and the main section has a small corner devoted to new books and the western and detective fiction and one reference books. One section of the stack room is devoted to the newspapers and one 's magazines. Doors connect the three offices.

Two Weeks to Move

It required two weeks to move the library and get everything ready to serve the public. Thus the city has been deprived of any library service at all for that period. The moving was done by Mrs. Agnes Ferris Bigelow, librarian, her assistants, Mrs. Alta Higginbotham and Mrs. Gladys Strickland, and the small crew of boys who did the lifting.

Office hour now in effect will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
