RASTADT, JAN. 18.

The deputation of the Empire deliberated on the 14th inst. upon the contents of the last note of the French Ministers, respecting the march of the Russian troops. The Envoy of Saxony, Austria, Hanover, and Wurtzburg, voted that said note should be sent to the Diet of Ratisbon: giving at the same time notice of the whole to the Emperor. The Envoy of Baden voted in the same manner, but he proposed that it should be declared at the same time to French Plenipotentiaries, that the deputation believed with great pleasure the assurances of their government to abide by its pacific principles with respect to the Germanic Empire; that the Deputation would also, on their part, do their utmost to preserve them; therefore they hoped the negotiations of peace would by no means be interrupted. Though the votes of Mentz, Darmstadt, and others, supported that of Baden, the majority was in favour of Saxony, Austria, &c. and the following answer to the French Ministers was voted, viz. The Note of the French Plenipotentiaries relative to the march of a body of Russian troops in the territory of the Germanic Empire, has been received; the Deputation has requested, that the said note should be immediately communicated to his Imperial Majesty, as well the Diet at Ratisbon: All which was done without delay. We are assured, the French Ministers, dissatisfied with the answer, intend this day, or tomorrow, to communicate another note enforcing the first, with new arguments and insinuations: For it appears they wished, and expected, in answer to their note, that the Deputation would have said the Empire was not, at present, in a situation to oppose the entrance of the Russians into its territory. However, it is certain, the French government seems resolved to pursue vigorous measures to prevent the Russians from passing through the Imperial territory.
