A writer in a Southern paper makes the following contrast: -- "Timothy Pickering disbursed many millions of dollars: he remitted vast sums to Europe; he gained in the operation of bills of exchange more than 14,000 dolls. he was abused and calumniated in the most opprobrious manner by Gallatin and others. A revolution happens. Pickering goes out; Gallatin comes in; and in the first scene of the first act of his administration, he sinks more than one hundred thousand dollars in the sale of bank stock. and the party justify it, by saying that he might have lost more in remitting bills of exchange." - Sal.
