Full Text

Accounts from Jamaica, dated October 1, mention exceeding heavy rains having fallen in the eastern parts of that island, about the latter end of September.

Considerable damage is said to have been done to the houses, stores, streets, &c. in and about Kingston, the water having rushed down in immense torrents from the vast extent of the Liguanea heights, and carried every thing, not of a very substantial nature, before it.

At St. Jago de la Vega (Spanish town) the damage was not so considerable.

We do not hear of any lives lost, except three or four negroes.

Most of the public roads were rendered wholly impassable for wheel carriages; and the rains did not seem to abate till about the 30th of September.
