STRICKEN PLANE
AVOIDS HOUSES;
THREE DIE IN CRASH

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP)--The commander of a stricken Air Force plane banked away from a group of houses to an open spot where the aircraft crashed and burned last night, killing three men and injuring three others critically.

Those injured were identified as Maj. Eugene Walker, 39, Lakewood, Ohio; Capt. Howard Pruden, 33, Schuyler County, N.Y., and T/Sgt. William Brookley, 28, Dayton, Ohio.

All three were taken to Brooks Army Medical Center at San Antonio, Tex., today accompanied by an Army medical team specializing in burns.

Names of the dead were withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Cause of the crash was not immediately determined, but at least one engine was not functioning. An aircraft accident investigation team was appointed and a search continued for all missing parts of the plane.
