WATERLOO! WATERLOO!! WATERLOO!!! Sauve qui peut! The Napoleon of Humbug is routed at his Waterloo. Let him abdicate for St. Helena. The Empire State is Whig, from present appearances—certainly Whig, if the Abolitionists play no freaks with us. Napoleon's own France rejects him now.—New York city is Whig by from 1,500 to 1,600 majority. All the Whig ticket is elected. Cambreleng goes to Washington only next winter, "in spite of the lamentations of the People."
ESTIMATED RESULT SO FAR.
When we get up the Hudson to Albany, we shall be behind Marcy a little, perhaps, but not much; and, if the grand Whig army of the Centre stands firm, the right wing of the invincible Whigs in the West will speak the majorities. The North will give us a gain over 1836, but a Van Buren majority, however. The great fighting ground was in New York city and along the Hudson. The Whig divisions have conquered there.
What the majority in the State will be, it is difficult to say. I am inclined to think, however, it will not be very large. The Whigs are secure of the Assembly, though not by so large a majority as last year.
WHIG GAINS OF CONGRESSMEN
Vanderpoel (V. B.) is elected. Gallup, Vail, Cambreleng, and Moore are defeated.
The Van Buren men here give up the State. The Evening Post lays no claim to it. The New Era, at 10 o'clock was doubtful.
The city last night was full of the most exciting scenes. I must refer you to the newspapers. There was no disturbance.
The whigs, by thousands, will go to Masonic Hall tonight.
All business matters feel the impetus of the joyful news.
