The members of the police department are in a very unhappy state of mind owing to the fact that the "ghost" did not walk, as is the time-honored custom, last Monday, or, in other words, they did not receive their weekly stipend. There are none of the members of the department, however, who will be obliged to go without turkey for Thanksgiving dinner on this account. This little unpleasant jolt is due to the fact that Chief of Police Adams is enjoying his annual furlough, and before he went away he forgot to deputize some one to make up the pay-roll.
