Mrs. Orner Would Not Plead Guilty

Van Horn, Tex., Oct. 12, 1913.

Editor El Paso Herald:

I would like you to take back the statement that I would plead guilty to the crime if the court would give me 15 years.

I have never said I would (and never will) plead guilty to a crime I never did.

I will fight to a finish.

Mrs. Agnes L. Orner.

(The Herald did not say that Mrs. Orner had agreed to plead guilty.

It said that a proposition had been made by one of her attorneys to ascertain if the court would accept a plea of guilty with a 15 year penalty.

The court refused.

Mrs. Orner may not have been cognizant of the offer and could have refused to accept her attorney's advice if the court had accepted the proposal.
