ATLANTA, June 13.-(A) -- The hooded Ku Klux Klan surrendered today its parent charter but State Attorney General Eugene Cook said it could continue to operate as a national organization "under the constitutional rights of free assembly."
The Klan, in a surprise move, voluntarily turned back its Georgia charter as it appeared to defend a State Superior Court suit for revocation. The suit was based on a contention the white-robed order operated for profit in violation of charter provisions.
