The Washington Correspondent of the Baltimore Patriot, relates the following incident in the House of Representatives on Monday: About 20 minutes before 12 o'clock, when the members of the House were parading the lobbies, conversing, writing, reading newspapers, and so forth, and so on, a Quaker Lady in the gallery, of the Hicksite order, commenced a plaintive exhortation, in which she conjured all particularly, more than any one in particular, to mind and take heed of their ways. Her voice had the effect to create quite a sensation. The members who were under the Gallery in the lobby hearing the lady's voice in the Hall, rushed back among their seats to get a sight of the fair expounder of biblical law. Some had got their eye glasses in quick requisition; all the bachelors seemed wonderfully delighted; and the nullifiers caught every word as it fell, in order no doubt to ascertain if one of the northern female abolitionists had not come to instruct Congress in propria persona upon their duty. Some said the fair preacher—and she had a fair face—was the celebrated Harriet Livermore. I immediately went from the floor of the House up into the Gallery to ascertain the fact, for I formerly knew Harriet, and had some curiosity to see her again. When I got there I found it was not that lady. Mr. Carr, the door keeper, was trying to make her desist. Some of the members below, however, told him to let her go on, and as the "spirit moved" she did "go on," until exhaustion caused her to adjourn.
