British Columbia beer parlors where beer is sold by private interests, and licensed by the government, are worse in their evil influences than the beer of pre-prohibition days, according to speakers who are campaigning against the opening of these establishments in Victoria. "The beer parlor is nothing less than the old saloon back again, with all its attendant evils, and is in fact worse than the old saloon, as a good many minors frequent these beer parlors, and there are women in them as well as men," said Mrs. A. R. Hill, president of the W. C. T. U. of Victoria.
Meanwhile, the liquor administration of the province is under fire for its attempt to increase liquor sales when the object of the present system of government control was to discourage drinking and encourage temperance.
