The news from the Empire State is at present pretty much all of a financial character. The approaching election is almost lost sight of except by Candidates and political casuists. The wretched mismanagement of State affairs by the Republicans, their inexcusable attempt to rob the City of New York of her Police government, and many other errors into which they have fallen within the last year, is so much capital in the hands of the Democrats, and the prospect is fair for the success of our friends. The late elections in the South and West and particularly in Pennsylvania have marked such gains to the National party, that we should not be surprised to learn that Republicans had abandoned the field before the day of battle. The 'Free State' success in Kansas removes the necessity for action among the Republicans, because it has been their persistent plan that Freedom in Kansas depended upon Northern Elections, and as that boon is in so fair a way to be secured without the intervention or influence of other states, we see but little use for the opposition at present. They have been beaten on every issue ever made by them and it is not at all likely they will maintain an organization without a prospect ahead. When the Democratic party advances some new idea, (no matter what) it will bring into existence an opposing force and that, for the time being, will run its career and be consigned to oblivion precisely as all its predecessors have been.
We hope to hear a good account of New York.

News from New York is mostly financial but the approaching election is overshadowed except by candidates and political casuists. Republicans' mismanagement of state affairs, attempt to rob New York City of her Police government, and other errors provide capital for Democrats. Late elections in the South, West, and particularly Pennsylvania show gains for the National party (Democrats). 'Free State' success in Kansas undermines Republican plans reliant on Northern elections. Republicans have been beaten on every issue and unlikely to maintain organization without prospects. Democratic advances will spawn temporary opposing forces that fade.
