FROM THE NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER

New-Orleans papers, received by us to the 26th ultimo, and which give particular accounts of the mortality at Bay St. Louis, beginning with the death of the lamented Mrs. Ripley, make no mention of the death of General Ripley. There is, therefore, no doubt that the report of his death was without other foundation than a printer's mistaking the name of his Lady or that of himself. By this unlucky mistake, the General will have the satisfaction which falls to few men, of learning what people would say of him after he was dead: for, being alive, he has been supposed dead, and spoken of accordingly. We hope it will be a long time before we have an opportunity of publishing the handsome obituary article and sketch of the General's life, which we had laid out, for that purpose, from the Salem Register.
