The following is the table of the school census of the city for 1899 recently taken:

First ward—Male, 98; female, 102: total, 200.
Second ward—Male, 28; female, 38; total, 66.
Third ward—Male 144; female, 160; total, 304.
Fourth ward—Male, 88; female, 110; total, 198.
Fifth ward—Male, 131; female, 149; total, 280.
Sixth ward—Male, 78; female, 76; total, 154.

The total number of boys of school age in the city is 567; girls 635, and total number of both, 1,202.

The census of 1898 shows 533 males and 602 females, a total of 1,135, or 67 less than for the present year.
