Members of the Holy Name Societies will be interested to know that the first Holy Name Society in this country was established at St. Charles' Church, Marion County, Kentucky, by Father Nerinckx. The record, in his own handwriting, preserved at Loretto, shows that he established the society on the fourth Sunday of Lent, in 1809, and that he kept it up for ten years, till 1819. The long list of names, so familiar as family names in Kentucky, is very interesting. It should awaken the zeal of the Holy Name Societies of today to know that Father Nerinckx found the society an effectual means of promoting piety and religion.
