The Dallas and Wichita Road.
At 2:20 p.m., yesterday, an excursion party ran out on this road nine miles, to the end of the present track, and returned to the city at 3:50, spending half an hour at the present terminus at the farm of Mrs. Langford. The party consisted of Mr. M. Henderson, the contractor, C. S. Stephens, the engineer, D. A. Robinson, secretary, Mayor Cabell, Recorder June Peak, Aldermen J. W. Crowdus, J. L. Williams, H. S. Ervay, W. J. Shone and M. M. Newson, and Messrs. Samuel C. Lancaster and John J. Craig, of Knoxville, Tennessee; J. H. Carle, G. Veeder and J. S. Hay, of Wisconsin; A. Howard, of Chicago; J. W. Paramore, of St. Louis, and the following citizens of Dallas : Thomas Field, A. T. Obenchain, John Henry Brown, C. B. Stephenson, Thomas Gilmore of the Lamar hotel, Thomas M. Miers, S. W. S. Duncan, G. M. Swink, W. Gaston, president of the company, G. B. Shields, H. C. Pennyman, T. L. Marsalis, C. E. Vreeland, Ed. Terrell, Philip Lindsley, W. L. Hall, E. G. Bower, J. Rouch, W. G. Randall, W. S. Parker, Master Walter K. Parker, R. W. Sypper, W. R. McIntyre and C. W. Parker—in all forty.
The whole party were delighted with the trip, the splendid condition of the road and the beautiful character of the country, touching, as it does, the outer edge of the Trinity valley, and affording a fine view of the magnificent adjacent prairie, thickly studded with farms. The iron is being rapidly laid, and very soon the iron horse will bear the greetings of Dallas to our friends in Denton.
Everyone, even the gentlemen from other states, was struck with the excellence of the work done. There was neither champagne nor lager—speech making nor toasts—but the whole affair was delightful to all concerned, not excepting Master Walter Parker, who enjoyed the grand forest scenes and a view of Long's lake, as only children from town can do.
