Full Text

Done Brown. A man named John Brown, who lives in Hillsdale, Michigan, has a son in a Michigan regiment, near Washington. Recently Mr. Brown hired a man named Edgar Sanford, also from Hillsdale, to go and take his son's place, that the latter might return home. He gave Sanford $60 in money to go, and accompanied him as far as here, paying all expenses. They arrived on the May Queen this morning, and the intention was to take the first Pittsburgh train for Washington. Sanford told Mr. Brown that he would like to walk up town and view the city. Brown suspecting no trickery, told him to go and he would accompany him. They went into some saloon and got a drink, and while Brown's attention was occupied, Sanford slipped out and disappeared. Mr. Brown communicated the facts to Marshal Gallagher, and will remain a day or two in hopes that the rascal may be caught. This is hardly likely, however, for he has doubtless made tracks out of the city. He is described as twenty-four years of age, five feet seven inches high, light complexioned, and wears a light moustache. He pretended to Brown that he formerly resided in this city, and desired to look around to see if it looked natural. Perhaps, too, he might meet some old acquaintances. We guess the old man is done Brown.
