April tenth is Maundy Thursday as the Thursday in Holy Week is called. According to Father MacMahon's Liturgical Catechism Maundy comes from the first word of the antiphon sung at the function of the washing of feet. This ceremony is not practiced generally in America outside of monasteries, but it dates back to the Last Supper. The real significance of the day stems from its being the anniversary of the Institution of the Blessed Sacrament. Be sure to receive Holy Communion and take your turn for Holy Hour Holy Thursday.
