There is nothing more refining in its tendencies than the cultivation of flowers about one's residence. They not only give a cheerfulness to the home surroundings, but they are indices to the taste, cultivation and intelligence of those from whom they receive care and attention. What we most need is to assort our varieties in reference to the season and times of blooming so that every week and month shall produce its variegated colors. Our finest flowers, shrubs, and bulbs are said to be imported. Yet our own prairies, hillsides and valleys are filled with the choicest of wild flowers which the educated tastes of the poorer class are making appear under their fostering care equal to many of the imported ones. Col. Furnas has just received one hundred and thirty five different varieties of Hybrid perpetual roses which are very fine. They will be ready for next Spring's delivery. He will then have one of the finest stocks of roses, flowers and ornamental shrubbery in the United States. We are pleased to witness such enterprise in one of our citizens as it offers us an opportunity to assort such as we may already have on hand.
