The commissioners appointed to treat with the Indian tribes, for the purchase of their reservation lands, have held treaties with the Onondagas and Cayugas; and effected the object of their mission to mutual satisfaction.--The Indians have ceded to this state all their said lands, except a very small quantity, which they have still reserved for such of their people as are settled, and intend remaining there.
Two persons from Niagara had the presumption to attend these treaties, as agents for the Indians; but the commissioners peremptorily refused to allow them any agency whatever in the business.
A treaty is now pending with the Oneidas.
We are informed from good authority that on the 28th ult. the Commissioners for treating with the Cayuga, Onondago and Oneida Indians, concluded a treaty with the two first mentioned nations, by which the Cayugas cede to the people of this state, about 60,000 acres of their reservation lands, to receive for the same annually $800 dollars--the Onondagas relinquish their right to the Salt Springs, and the one mile of land around them, for $500 dollars annually--also, their half mile of land along the Onondaga Creek, for $200 dollars annually. Our informant, who left the Commissioners at Oneida on Monday last, thinks it probable a treaty will also be concluded with that nation during the present week.
