The Savan Kindergarten School
Every now and then official announcement is made of some "double I" project to be started soon under the supervision of Mr. William Seeley, the engineer-in-charge. But we do not see anything about the plans to construct the Kindergarten School in Savan.
Funds for this project have been made available in appropriations over since 1955. There is no question in anyone's mind that this kindergarten school is urgently needed. Tiny tots now have to travel all the way from Savan to a building in the old hospital area daily in order to obtain the benefits of kindergarten instruction. This should not be when the Legislature has long ago provided the funds for the construction of a kindergarten school in the Savan area.
Funds have been released recently for the construction of a stadium at the Lionel Roberts Ball Park. The appropriation for the stadium was made long after that for the kindergarten school. The Washington School will soon be renovated, and other government buildings will be repaired to provide additional office space. All of the appropriations for these construction projects were made long after the school in Savan. In fact, some of these appropriations were made only this year by the Legislature.
What is holding up progress on the construction of this much-needed school in a thickly populated area? We would hate to believe that the construction is being deliberately held up because the original move for a kindergarten school in Savan was made by Unity Party Senators.
We feel that the people of that area should demand that action be taken, and soon, for the construction of this school. There can be no real excuse for not working on this project right away.
These are things that are being observed by the people, and voters can have a long memory, especially when they are deliberately being deprived of a much needed benefit for their children.
