Shut Down Virginia Golf Course

DANVILLE, Va.- (INS) - The Cain Creek Municipal Golf course was closed permanently Saturday at Danville after a series of segregation incidents.

The course was shut down temporarily a bit more than a week ago when four Negroes played nine holes after being denied permission to play on that particular day.

For the previous 30 months the course had been operated for both white and Negro golfers on a segregated basis with 40 per cent of the days reserved for Negroes.

Friday, a Negro delegation asked city manager T. Edwards Temple to open the links on a fully integrated basis.
