Full Text

AN OLD OFFENDER CAUGHT.

A few weeks since 3 horses were stolen from Mr Schenck, living near Hamilton and the following day two more from a farmer in Clinton county, and about the same time three more from a gentleman at the head of Vine st., in this city. The horses stolen from Mr. Schenck were pastured with Mr. Nye, of Columbus township, one day, ostensibly waiting for a boat to take them down the river; but in fact only till night should come as a cover to flight. At night, the thief pretended the boat had arrived, and he proceeded on his journey, suspected however by Mr. Nye as a thief. The horses were soon traced to Lancaster by their owner and recovered in the possession of the thief who was taken to Hamilton, and on Friday committed for the crime. His name is Prior, a citizen of Clinton, and a great villain, previously under $800 bonds for stealing a large amount of State bonds from Weller and company at Hamilton, which bond he had forfeited.

Schenck is the wrong man to steal from; he is hard on the track of rogues.
