The age old fads, and follies of the eternally feminine "Old Maid" were artistically reviewed in
"Convention of the Creatures,"
which was held at the opera house last Thursday evening, Miss Lillian Wood, as president, most admirably presided over councils that considered the only real and vital problem "Old Maids" ever had, namely, 'the attraction or subjugation of "Man."
Just two Columbus men had enough courage to take part in the "Convention" they however, were magicians who transposed the old maids into some other happier form of life.
The plot was well carried out and most ludicrously portrayed. The costumes were heirlooms of the past century, resurrected from the bottom of trunks and chests, treasured relics of belles and "old maids" of other days.
In addition to the "convention" comic songs and old fashioned melodies gave pleasure to the large and delighted audience.
Music was furnished by a splendid orchestra.
Something over $200 was realized which, under the auspices of the Parent-Teacher Association of the Franklin School, will be devoted for equipment bought for Franklin.
