Meeting of the County Court to-day-Officers Elected.

The County Court met in the old Criminal Court room this forenoon. An election for Chairman was held with the following result: C. E. Smith, 19; A. C. Welborn, 1; D. C. Slaughter, 15; J. A. Murray, 1; Tom Holman, 4, resulting in the election of Mr. C. E. Smith. 'Squire Holman made a neat little speech before the voting began, in which he emphatically refused to be a candidate for the office. He was nominated by four different parties, and received as many votes in spite of his refusal, those gentlemen exclaiming that they had been instructed to vote for Holman and would do so, willy nilly. J. A. Murray was elected Chairman pro tem. The salary of the County Attorney was fixed at $2000 and a lively contest took place between the friends of the present incumbent J. A. Taylor and W. B. Glisson, resulting in the election of the latter on the second ballot. He received 23 votes against 16 for Taylor.
