By an EXPRESS who left New York Yesterday se'nnight, we have the following News from the Havannah.
NEW YORK, July 15.
On Tuesday last arrived here the Sloop Alice Capt. Tafb, in 30 Days from Jamaica: but last from the Havannah in 15 Days By him we learn. That 17 Days ago. 3 Leagues off the Havannah. he was boarded by an English Officer of his Majesty's Ship the Alcide. who informed him that the Troops under the Command of the Earl of Albermarle, landed at the Havannah without Opposition ; but that the Spaniards gave them a warm Reception as soon as they made their Approaches; that they had sunk three of their Ships in the Entrance of the Harbour. to prevent the English Fleet from getting in. That a Party of Sailors belonging to an English Frigate, going on Shore in Search of fresh Provisions, were surrounded by the Enemy, and 13 of them cut to Pieces. in a very inhuman Manner . and that a Lieutenant of the Rangers had his Nose and Ears cut off. and was otherwise used very ungentilely by the Spaniards, and sent to the English Camp by Way of Derision ; which intelligence incensed the Earl of Albermarle so much. that he sent Word to the Governor of the Havannah, that he should neither give nor take Quarters, and desired him to kill every English Prisoner he should take, for he would do the same by all the Spaniards he met with
About a Week before Capt. Tofb left Jamaica. Some English Prisoners arrived there from St. Jago on the Island of Cuba, who had been taken and carried in there by a French Privateer : ...They assured. That the Spaniards at that Place had not received any Account of War being declared ; that no Privateers were fitted out there; and that only two Men of War were in that Harbour. with their Top Masts and Yards all Struck.
That our Army Commanded by the Earl of Albermarle had landed Safely at the Havannah.and were in Possession of a high Hill (which commands the Morro Castle, and City of Havannah) on which they had erected their Batteries. and began to play on the Place the 1st of June....The Number of Ships of War at the Havannah, said to be 20, 14 of which of the Line
Since the Date of the New York Paper, a Vessel arrived from Philadelphia, which spoke with a Vessel from New.Providence, been out 13 Days from the Havannah, who told him they had taken Four Forts on the Island of CUBA.and he believ'd before he could arrive, the whole would be reduced.
