And Is Made to Trek After Two Nights.
Even as there came to Lumberton this week, an entertainment that was altogether sweet and pure and refining in influence, just so there blew into town a dirty little, sordid little, mean little, contemptible little, nasty hutia-and literally stinking little show that ought not to be allowed to come within the corporate limits of any decent town. This sorry bunch sifted into town Monday and secured license for a week's engagement, but, to the credit of the town authorities be it said, they were told yesterday to take up their tent and trek. It might be said in passing that it would have been much more to the credit of the town authorities if they had never allowed such bunch as that to erect their tent on Main street, or at least if they had made the show move after the first night; for even the appearance of the tent was enough to make one want to walk a block or so to keep from passing it. The suggestion of contamination in passing the dirty thing made one feel like taking a bath immediately. It was a black and tan aggregation and they danced and made pitiful and coarse attempts to be funny, and-but Shucks! it isn't worth cussing about any more.
