We learn, by letters from Grenadier Island, received in this city, that on the 30th, October, Major General Wilkinson, the Commander in Chief of the expedition against the Canadas, was at Grenadier Island, 18 miles from Sackett's Harbor and about the same distance from Kingston : his army had been dispersed by storms; his arms, ammunition and clothing destroyed; his boats wrecked and his provisions lost; an almost constant tempest of wind, rain, hail and snow had prevailed from the 5th of October to the 30th of the same month ;- yet the troops had been re-assembled, clad, armed and equipped, provisions had been supplied and transports found.—Three thousand men had entered the St. Lawrence and three thousand more under the Commander in Chief were to follow on the 31st, accompanied by the squadron of the able and intrepid Commodore Chauncey, to the rendezvous highly favorable to attack Kingston.— Yet it is said that no person knew, not even the Secretary of War, what were the General's intentions. whether to winter in Kingston or Montreal.
