Paving Sidewalks And Streets Here

Considerable new concrete paving is included in a program now under way in Pickens. About two miles of concrete sidewalk will be laid and plans are being made to pave the center of Main street which was left unpaved when asphalt was put down on each side of street last year.

Just which sidewalks will be paved depends greatly on local property owners. Sidewalks will only be paved where property owners pay one-half the cost, the town paying the other half.

The City of Pickens last week received a check for $4,906.27 from the State Highway Commission as reimbursement for a strip of paving 18 feet wide on Main street, this portion of the street being a part of state highway No. 13 and on the state paving program. Half of the money goes to the city and half to property owners who were assessed for paving that part of Main street on the state highway.
