Full Text

Judge Parsons, provisional governor of Alabama, was an original secessionist, though belonging by social affinities to the more conservative class. He was an opponent of the Jeff. Davis government, and during the last year or two has had as little to do with the sinking ship as possible. He is, or was under the old regime, a large slaveholder, and is supposed to have great influence with the old slaveholding families, who were for the most part violent secessionists. There was strong opposition to him on the ground of his political antecedents, but policy seemed to call for his appointment, and finally prevailed.
