We hear that a considerable number of Persons have lately gone from Connecticut, armed in a hostile and warlike Manner, in order to repossess themselves of, and settle a large Tract of Land on the River Susquehannah, (said to be within the Limits of the Province of Pennsylvania) from whence they were some time since removed, and the Lands now in Possession of other Persons who are under Contract with the Proprietors for the Purchase of them.-- The President and Council of which Province, upon hearing thereof, have issued a Proclamation, warning any of the Inhabitants of that Government from being unwarily drawn in to join them in prosecuting their illegal Settlements, and also forbidding all other Persons whatsoever to intrude upon, settle or possess any of the said Lands without express Permission from that Government, as they would avoid subjecting themselves to the Penalty of an Act of their General Assembly, whereby it is made Felony, without Benefit of Clergy, for any Persons, to the number of twelve, or more, who shall unlawfully, riotously and tumultuously continue assembled together after command or request made by Proclamation for them to disperse; and all Magistrates, Sheriffs, and other Peace Officers, are strictly charged and enjoined to carry into Execution said Act of Assembly against those Intruders, and others who may transgress the same.
