HARTFORD. Dec. 10.
We are informed, that some of the electors of this state, received letters from New-York, recommending Governor Clinton as a proper man for Vice-President. The writers of those letters, and all their adherents, may be assured, that this and every other attempt to influence the people of this state in their elections, will excite no small degree of resentment.
The factious of New-York had better keep their undue influence, their cabals and their corruption, among themselves, and not attempt to spread them among the quiet and independent Electors and freemen of Connecticut. Any attempt of this kind deserves severe reprobation; but an attempt to persuade our electors to vote for Governor Clinton, a man of moderate political talents, and a steady, active enemy to the constitution of the United States, is a very open affront to the citizens of this state--A man too who is at the head of a party in New-York--and it is a sacred truth, that the leaders of popular factions are all tyrants at heart. Governor Clinton is infinitely more aristocratical in his principles than Mr. Adams --at the same time, his political talents and information, weighed in the balance with those of Mr. Adams, are lighter than a feather. For shame, ye tools of power! keep your tyrant among yourselves, and do not obtrude him into a situation, where he may disturb the peace of the Union.
