Full Text

Afraid of His own Troops.

An army correspondent writes that the rebel General Hillman is said to be very unpopular, and in constant danger of his life among the men. He is far from the curly headed, dapper, exquisite little gentleman that his old Washington acquaintances would recognize. Polite but stiff, in a coarse gray uniform and with the marks of hardship and toil upon him he is still faithless, tricky and cruel. He had an immense body guard-some say a regiment-of picked men: in battle he keeps concealed, giving his orders by plans of the field, and reports of his officers, and he has a surgeon constantly with him.
