Remarkable Scene.—There is something really out of the common way in an incident occurring at the recent anniversary meeting of the Presbyterians in Chicago. On the programme was entered the report of a special committee intrusted last year with the superintendence of an effort to raise five million dollars as a memorial fund. The time came for the reading of the report and Rev. Dr. Ellingwood rendered up the account of this responsible stewardship. The report was short, and so sustained an interest that the audience listened to it with intense attention. With apparent purpose all figures were kept in the back ground till just as the report reached its conclusion, when the efforts had resulted in the collection of a memorial fund amounting to more than seven million dollars in Presbyterian churches, in a single year.—When this grand total was announced, the vast audience broke out spontaneously into loud applause, in the midst of which some one started the doxology, 'Praise God, from whom all blessings flow,' which, after being sung, all remained standing while Rev. Dr. Hall of this city offered prayer. The prayer is spoken of by those who heard it as a most affecting one, and at its close there was hardly a dry eye in the house.—New York Times.
