Matsuoka Re-Elected to Presidency Of Group at Annual Gathering
Yoshito Fujii was named "Man of the Year" by the Jackson Street Community Council at its annual dinner-meeting Thursday night in the Neighborhood House.
Graduated as a sociology major by the University of Washington in 1928, Fujii is very much prominent in civic affairs in this area. He is the captain of the current city-wide JACL Anti-Discrimination Committee fund drive, and a member of the University of Washington Japanese Alumni Association and the Seattle Chamber of Commerce. His other positions include membership in the Buddhist Kaikan, Jackson Street Community Council and Japanese Students Club (U.W.) boards. He is also chairman of the Seattle Japanese Hotel Apartment Association and vice president of the Seattle Buddhist temple. The successful nearly-$10,000 campaign by the Nisei War Memorial Committee to erect a memorial in honor of Nisei war dead of World War II was under his chairmanship.
Officers Named
All officers of the Jackson Street Community Council were re-elected at the group's annual dinner-meeting last Thursday night in Neighborhood House.
James Matsuoka was re-elected president; Alexander Bishop, vice president; and George Cox, secretary-treasurer.
The board of trustees will consist of Mrs. Ruth Chinn, Mrs. Joel Boutte, V. A. Velasco, Toru Sakahara, T. A. Allasina and John Castillio. The chairmen for the various standing committees are Chin Han, civic; Dr. James E. Jackson, health; Tac Tsubota, junior council; Mrs. Elizabeth Burse, recreation; and Dr. Terrence Toda, welfare.
Featured at the gathering which attracted more than 200 persons in the community, were the "International Smorgasbord" dinner and the panel on "The Shape of Things to Come" with Mayor William F. Devin as moderator.
