FORMER PALMERITE WOUNDS SELF IN GUN ACCIDENT

Lee Overton, 26, of Seward seriously wounded himself Christmas day while changing barrels on a .22 pistol. Believing the gun not loaded, Overton was removing the barrel when the gun discharged, sending the bullet through his abdomen and out his back.

Rushed to Valley Hospital by friends, first aid and plasma were administered by Drs. C. C. Bailey and Mack Woodward. Overton was then removed to the 5005th Air Force Hospital at Elmendorf by the 10th Air Rescue who flew in a B-17 for his evacuation. His condition today was reported as good.

Overton is a former Palmer resident and has been working at the Central Garage in Seward. He and a friend were spending the Christmas holiday with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Curtis when the accident occurred.
