The question arises: Why so much heart disease in America? Whereas no one knows the etiology or the cause of heart disease, not even Medical Science, the following reasons are given for the increase in this disease: 1. Stress and tension of living. 2. We overeat, we overdrink, and eat improper food. 3. The population is older and the span of life is increased.
The heart is made up of muscle and it has a built-in mechanism which permits it to beat twenty-four hours per day. It is a tough organ, but it is because we abuse this organ that it breaks down.
There are several types of heart disease, but adults are affected mainly by four: 1. Hypertension or High Blood Pressure. 2. Coronary Heart Disease or Hardening of the Arteries.
Symptoms are mainly dizziness, headaches, gastric disturbances, and chest pain. Many people in the past who were thought to have died from acute indigestion, died from coronary heart disease.
What is the best advice to avoid getting into trouble when one has heart disease? This is what everyone wants to know.
If the following few simple suggestions are noted, ones life may be prolonged if he has this disease:
1. Do not overeat or overdrink.
2. If you are fat--reduce.
3. Do not eat a full meal and run to catch the bus or rush to work.
4. If you have high blood pressure learn how to relax.
5. Stop smoking or limit your smoking to a minimum.
Smoking causes constriction or narrowing of the coronary vessels and it speeds up the onset of coronary heart disease.
6. Heart attacks are prone to happen in real cold weather or real hot weather; therefore: it is unwise for one to shovel all the snow from his sidewalks when it is extremely cold, particularly if he has not been used to exercising.
People who are most susceptible to coronary heart disease are those with hypertension, that is, with a blood pressure of above 150/90: diabetic patients -- the more severe the diabetes, the greater the danger; obese people with hypertension or high blood pressure; and men in contrast to women, young or old, with hypertension.

Advice to prolong life: avoid overeating/drinking, reduce weight, relax after meals, learn relaxation for high blood pressure, limit smoking (which narrows vessels), avoid exertion in extreme weather. Susceptible: those with BP >150/90, severe diabetics, obese hypertensives, men with hypertension.
