Full Text
The papers of late, have furnished several painful accounts of the drowning of young men and boys, by breaking through the ice while skating. A distressing case of this kind occurred at Enfield, in this State, on Saturday afternoon last: Lucius Q. C. and Charles E. Morse, brothers, one aged 13, the other 11, were skating on the river, when Lucius broke through. Charles exerted himself with the greatest intrepidity to save him;—breaking through, and being some time in the water, till nearly exhausted. When he got to the shore, Lucius requested him to call for help: but he was unable to obtain any, and was compelled to see his brother after struggling some time among the breaking ice, rise the third time and expire.
