Prof. John Siler, a former resident of Leipsic, liberated last February after three years internment by the Japanese at Manila, was a dinner guest last Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Mayberry, of Columbus Grove.
Prof. Siler, a world traveler, had been in the Philippine islands for 22 years, teaching English literature in Santo Tomas university, at the time the Japanese took over.
At the time of his liberation from the university prison established by the Japanese, he was suffering from extreme malnutrition and weighed only 90 pounds.
Other guests at the Mayberry home for the dinner were Mrs. Ralph Siler, Lima; Mrs. Oread and Miss Margaret Trailkill, Perrysburg; Mrs. Donivan Stratton, daughter, Donna Lou, and Mrs. Emerson V. Eherman, all of Columbus Grove.
