WILL ROGERS says:
CHICAGO, June 27. (Special) -Flew all night by plane from California and arrived here this morning in air charged with true Democracy and good feeling of every candidate for his own delegates.
If this convention stopped right now. two days before it starts, its been a better convention than the Republican one.
In fact if it did stop right now and they blindfolded some child and had her pick a name from the hat as candidate they would go home in better humor than they are liable to.
The plan is to "stop" Roosevelt. Then everybody "stop" each other. At a time when the Democrats should be "starting," they are "stopping." They are trying to change the "two- thirds rule." It takes two- thirds to change it. If two- thirds of the Democrats agreed. they wouldn't be Democrats.
Can't change it. The hotel men are against it.
Had a private chat today with every candidate here.
Al, always frank, said: "I am not only trying to stop Roosevelt; I am like the rest of 'em, trying to stop everybody but myself."
Ritchie. said. "Well. Will. I stand for what the people seem to want if I can just get some delegates to stand for me."
Garner men feel that if the nomination should ever accidentally get to a question of ability, they have a splendid chance.
Talked with Governor Byrd of Virginia, a very high class man, which is practically his only handicap. Bill Murray and I huddled in a room for an hour and decided that if they don't compromise on him we're going to give Oklahoma back to the Indians.
Yours, Will Rogers
