Baseball generalship cost Laramie a baseball game yesterday when a batting rally in the ninth inning had netted the Wildcats one run, the bases were loaded and Kelley, a pinch hitter, was at the bat.
At this crucial stage of the game between victory and defeat J. Mapel effectively for Casper weakened.
John's S. O. S. call found none of the other pitchers of the Casper team ready. Manager Arbogast had no hesitancy in jerking him.
During the parley that followed Rolla Mapel was sent into the pinch with the instructions to throw one ball after he was announced.
In the meantime big Dave Davenport was behind the grandstand throwing a few balls to limber up.
He then went into the gap.
With Kelley batting, Davenport turned loose all he had. Kelley took three healthy swings at the ball which he didn't even come close to hitting and the game was over.
The Casper team played errorless baseball behind Mapel yesterday and he allowed but six hits and went like a victor until the final inning. Laramie's two errors counted heavily in the scoring of the three runs which Casper gathered in the third and fourth innings.
Sigman, who toiled for Laramie was also very effective and allowed the Refiners but eight safeties. The crisis of the game came in the ninth inning when Davenport went into the box.
The Refiners looked strong in the third and fourth innings, scoring two in the former and one in the latter. Laramie's first score came in the seventh inning and its last score in the ninth. Casper left but four men on the bases while Laramie left seven men on the sacks.
With the jinx that has trailed Casper for the past several weeks busted the Refiners are now ready to stage the comeback which will place the team in its proper standing.
