BENEVOLENCE....It is with more than common pleasure, says the Raleigh Register, we record instances of benevolence which arise from the pure sources of Philanthropy. To relieve distress from the impulse of the moment, when the feelings are interested and strong emotions awakened by recital or view of misery is generous and humane; but to seek out objects of distress, to soothe misfortune by administering relief, to "do good by stealth, and blush to find it fame," is charity in her brightest form. The last Warrenton Reporter mentions an instance of rare benevolence in a gentleman of Charleston, S. C. who, hearing of the distress which seemed likely to ensue in that county from the failure of crops, enclosed to a friend a bank bill of $100, to be applied to the relief of such as might need assistance in that county. A small donation has been made by a person of this city, to the same fund—but no names are mentioned by the Reporter. We are very glad to see it stated in the Reporter, that the public alarm has much subsided on this subject.
