NEW-YORK, August 15.

Our city this morning experienced a heavy shower of rain, accompanied with thunder and lightning, which has thoroughly cleaned our streets, and left us a mild, temperate and wholesome atmosphere. We have great reason to hope, from the present healthy state which we now enjoy, and the favorableness of the weather, that our city will escape the usual visitation of the Yellow Fever this season.

To the Editor of the Commercial Advertiser.

SIR,

Supposing that every thing likely to benefit the public, an object worthy of attention, I take the liberty to trouble you with an account of a Mineral Spring which lately came under my observation, requesting you to give it a place in your paper.

The peculiar Situation of the Spring first arrested my attention; it is situated about one mile above Wechack Ferry, on the jersey shore, on a Farm belonging to capt. Days, on the very top of a bank overlooking the Hudson. at least three hundred feet high; the Spring is feeble, the taste peculiar, and different from any other that I have felt, or even described It has something of a resemblance to Alum and Rosewater mixed—but it is not very strongly impregnated with the mineral Its properties are very particular.

From capt. Days and a Farmer who has lived in its neighborhood many years, I had the following information—that it had cured several people of sore eyes, ulcers and other external maladies, that it is of a gentle purgative nature, and when bread is baked with it instead of common water, it answered all the purposes of yeast. This last remarkable quality I never heard of water possessing before, and I sincerely wish some person acquainted with Minerals, would investigate fully, the nature of the well, as it may come to be of general use, and the most salutary effects be produced from its waters.

I am, Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant.
CALEDONIUS.
