Full Text
It must be admitted that there are very many funny things said, but little to the purpose, by persons advocating the claims of the different candidates to the support of the American people for the Presidency. But if there is one idea more glaringly untruthful and ludicrous than any other, it is that held up in certain quarters—by the Barnburner Western Citizen, and kindred Abolition sheets, that Martin Van Buren merits their support on the score of religion and morality! It is perfectly notorious that Van Buren was the embodier of the first really corrupt and intriguing and profligate Cabinet that ever disgraced the Republic.
