Mayor Tells Home Arts Nome Will Be Isolated In Event Of Hostilities

Members of the Home Arts Club, Women's Federation Club, enjoyed a talk by Mayor Steffen Andersen on Civilian Defense.

It was explained that civilian defense is no longer organized on a national basis with all planning being conducted at the nation's capitol, but is being placed on a local level, with each community responsible for its own survival in the event of war or catastrophe.

Andersen stated that Nome could be completely isolated, should there be a surprise attack, for a lengthy period of time, and some plan should be formulated to meet that emergency.

It was also disclosed that a technician is being trained to study radioactive substance in this area.
