The guns that have fired 150,476 shells into German lines and covered 1,600 miles of combat area are silent. Well lubricated and checked daily, they are standing by today as their guardians, the men of the 219th Field Artillery Battalion, carry out their military government mission with XXIII Corps in Germany.
The 219th, a 35th Division unit currently is stationed in the large German area occupied by the Fifteenth United States Army under Lieutenant General Leonard T. Gerow. Kept busy with occupational security work and with a large-scale sports and recreational program, the battalion's members are also undergoing specialized training in preparation for possible future assignments in other parts of the world.
A member of this 219th Field Artillery is Pfc. Norman Acs of 22328 Northline avenue, Wyandotte.
