Extract of a letter from Nova Scotia, December 20th, 1785:

"We have lately had our General Election--and a terrible time it was--the true English Electioneering spirit reigned--and every one strove who should carry the strongest marks of loyalty to his king in his face--and indeed those many black eyes and bloody noses which the day after exhibited, fully evinces that for loyalty and true English spirit his Britannick Majesty has not a more hopeful set of subjects than are to be found in the barren deserts of Nova Scotia."
