DON'TS!
DON'T
Ask the JOURNAL to keep matters of current
interest out of its columns and save us the disa-
greeable duty of refusing you. Our work is to
publish the news-not to suppress it.
DON'T
ask us to republish an article because of a typo.
graphical error
We will positively do nothing of
the kind. In case the sense of the text has been
changed we will make a correction; otherwise
not. We have pressure enough on our columns
every day, without warming over any of our own
cheatns.
DON'T
Forget that a newspaper's space is its stock in
trade. It cannot do business and give it away any
more than a merchant could dispose of his goods
gratuitously. There are some people who don't
think of this, but it's a fact just the same.
DON'T
Expect the editor to give your charitable project
fifty dollars worth of free advertising and then
ask him to head your subscription paper. That is
literally riding a free horse to death.
DON'T
Marvel at occasional typographical errors. The
magazines hire high-priced experts and read their
proof repeatedly. They have a whole month in
which to prepare for publication and none of them
it is said, has issued a number without a typo.
graphical error somewhere. The wonder therefore,
fornished with a newspaper rushed together inside of
twenty hours, is not that there are typographical
errors; but that there are not more of them.
DON'T
Fail to write all words and especially proper
names distinctly in copy sent the JOURNAL. You
are acquainted with the parties you speak of quite
likely. We are not.
DON'T
Blame the paper, therefore, if an indefinite scrawl
for Jones is interpreted Smith. Our compositors
are good at guessing; but they are not infallible.
DON'T
Fail to inform the office of any negligence on the
part of our carriers.
DON'T
Think that any advertising medium in Central
Maine can compare with the KENNEBEC JOURNAL
and, above all things,
DON'T
Fail to take advantage of our great coupon
offers.
