Full Text

CHARLESTON, June 11.

The following melancholy catastrophe which happened in the county of Meath, in Ireland, exhibits a striking instance of the dangerous tendency of falsehood and duplicity, and of letting our passions get the better of our reason. "A maid-servant to a butcher having been book-worn to a young man, and he marrying another woman, she went into her master's barn and hung herself. The master finding her dead, was so enraged thereat, and blaming his wife for being the means of promoting the fellow's marriage, and being thereby instrumental to the young woman's death, struck her on the head with a spade and knocked out her brains, and afterwards cut his own throat."
