HOLLYWOOD - Warner Brothers' perfectly-timed short. "My Country 'Tis of Thee," which has taken years to assemble and contains U.S. history highlights, is wanted by the U. S. Treasury Department for its forthcoming bond drive.
Producer Samuel Goldwyn is making screen tests of nine female and two male actors. He hasn't had a leading lady under contract since Teresa Wright left him 18 months ago. Sam has pacted Irwin Shaw to screenplay an original about recalled servicemen.
Director-Actor Gregory Ratoff, who recently completed three pictures in England, is back in Hollywood looking for Gin Rummy players. Both NBC and CBS would very much like to have Danny Kaye's autograph- on some legal paper for exclusive television deals. Danny says he's in no hurry to get into TV.
Ezra Stone of Henry Aldrich fame has stepped in as director of the Danny Thomas TV series on NBC.
SPORTSCASTER Bill Stern moves into top television daytime prominence after two months on the air with his new NBC show "Remember This Date." It's a quiz show with a dramatic twist. And he's quite proud of having pulled over 8,000 women viewers in four weeks!
Lillian Hellman's new play, to star Fredric March. will be titled "Autumn Garden." Lillian, if you will recall, did quite well with "Little Foxes." "Watch On The Rhine" and "Searching Wind."

Frank Loesser, composer of "Where's Charley?" and "Guys and Dolls," both big Broadway hits, and currently back at Paramount writing some new film songs, says he may go to New York to do the music for "Huck and Jim," musical version of Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn," which Maxwell Anderson and Josh Logan are adapting.
ACTOR MORRIS Carnovsky who closed recently in"Enemy Of the People" on Broadway, post- cards he'll be teaching an advanced acting class at the Dramatic Workshop, N. Y. Producer Harry Sherman has been installed as president of the Beverly Hills B'nai B'rith with Producer Harry Joe Brown as vice-president.
